Milton the Monster, also called The Milton the Monster Show, is an American animated cartoon TV series. It aired on ABC from October 9, 1965, to September 8, 1968. Hal Seeger produced and directed this fun show.

Meet Milton the Monster and Friends

This cartoon series stars Milton the Monster. He looks a bit like Frankenstein's monster, with a flat head that lets out steam or smoke. Milton was created by a mad scientist named Professor Montgomery Weirdo. The Professor and his helper, Count Kook, live in a spooky haunted house on Horror Hill.

Milton is a very friendly and good-natured monster. This is because Professor Weirdo accidentally added too much "tincture of tenderness" when he created him. Milton wasn't made from body parts. Instead, he was poured into a mold using liquids like "essence of terror" and "sinister sauce."

Professor Weirdo wanted to add just a tiny bit of tenderness. But Count Kook bumped his arm, and too much was added. Milton's voice sounds like Jim Nabors' character, Gomer Pyle. Bob McFadden provided Milton's voice. He also voiced other monsters living with Professor Weirdo.

Professor Weirdo's Other Monsters

  • Heebie: This character is a ghoul with a skull face and a top hat. He has a voice like the actor Peter Lorre.
  • Jeebie: He is a slow, green, hairy creature with one eye, like a Cyclops. Jeebie often uses his single sharp tooth to open soda cans.

Other Characters in the Show

Professor Weirdo has a rival, Professor Fruitcake. Professor Fruitcake is another mad scientist. He lives in a castle on a hill across from Professor Weirdo. His main creation is Zelda the Zombie.

You'll also meet Fangenstein, a biker monster. His sidekick is Abercrombie the Zombie. Professor Weirdo's aunt, Aunt Hagatha, is a witchy character.

Fearless Fly: The Super Insect

Fearless Fly is about a superhero insect. He is similar to Hanna-Barbera's Atom Ant. Fearless Fly is actually Hiram, a normal housefly. When there's danger, he goes into a matchbox. There, he puts on a red sweater and special super high-powered glasses.

These glasses turn him into the superhero Fearless Fly. He is said to be stronger than a rocket and faster than light. No flyswatter, flypaper, or bug spray can stop him. Fearless Fly's only weakness is losing his glasses, which happens often. His main enemy is Dr. Goo Fee, who is 900 years old. Dr. Goo Fee has an assistant named Gung Ho. Sometimes, Professor Weirdo from Milton the Monster tries to bother Fearless Fly. Bob McFadden usually did all the voices for this segment too.

Flukey Luke: The Lucky Detective

Flukey Luke stars a cowboy detective. He has an Irish-accented Native American friend named Two Feathers. His horse is called Pronto. Flukey Luke is named for his amazing dumb luck. He always wins, even though he is not very good at being a detective.

Stuffy Durma the Millionaire Hobo

This segment features Stuffy Durma, a rich hobo. His valet, Bradley Brinkley, tries to make him more refined. But Stuffy Durma always resists these efforts.

Muggy-Doo Boy Fox: The Sly Fox

Muggy-Doo Boy Fox is about a clever young fox. He often gets into trouble with his get-rich-quick schemes.

Penny Penguin: The Bratty Bird

Penny Penguin stars a penguin girl who is a bit bratty. You also see her parents in these cartoons.
