Mimi Chocolate was a popular brand from Bangladesh that made chocolate bars and chewing gum. It started in 1965 and was the very first chocolate brand available in Bangladesh! For a long time, Mimi Chocolate was the only big chocolate company in the country.
A Sweet History
Mimi Chocolate Limited was set up on a large piece of land in the Tejgaon Industrial Area. After Bangladesh became independent, a group called the Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Welfare Trust took over the company.
Mimi Chocolate did very well because there weren't many other chocolate brands in Bangladesh back then. It was also hard to bring in foreign chocolates. This helped Mimi Chocolate stay super popular for about 18 years. In the 1990s, Mimi sold millions of Taka worth of chocolates and chewing gum every year!

The chocolate bars came wrapped in simple brown paper. You could find Mimi chocolate bars in two different tastes:

How Mimi Advertised
Mimi Chocolate had a TV commercial that played on BTV. At that time, BTV was the only TV channel available. Mimi didn't need to do a lot of advertising because there weren't many other companies selling chocolate. They were already the most popular choice!
Why Mimi Stopped
About 17 years after it started, the company began to have problems. Their old machines made it expensive to produce chocolate. The cost of making the chocolate became almost the same as the price they sold it for.
In 2009, Mimi Chocolate stopped working for a while, but then it opened again. However, it couldn't keep up with new competitors and solve its problems. Finally, in 2018, Mimi Chocolate Limited closed down for good.
