Mimopeus elongatus is a type of darkling beetle. It belongs to a group of beetles called tenebrioninae. A scientist named Brème first described this beetle in 1842. He first thought it was a different kind of beetle, named Celibe.

Where Does the Mimopeus elongatus Live?

This beetle lives along the coast of the North Island in New Zealand. You can find it in sandy areas called sand dunes. It also lives among a plant called Muehlenbeckia complexa. Sometimes, it lives near large rocks, or boulders, on beaches. It can also be found around boulders in the Auckland volcanic field.

What Does the Mimopeus elongatus Look Like?

These beetles can be reddish-brown or black. Their underside is shiny. Adult beetles are about 11 to 15 millimeters long. That's about half an inch. They are also about 5.3 to 7.3 millimeters wide.
