Mina Fonda Ochtman (1862–1924) was a talented American artist. She was famous for her beautiful watercolor paintings. Mina loved to paint landscapes and scenes of the coast. She was married to another artist, Leonard Ochtman. Mina was also an important part of the Cos Cob Art Colony. This art group was in Greenwich, Connecticut, during the early 1900s.
Her Life and Art Career
Mina Fonda was born in Laconia, New Hampshire, in 1862. When she was 24, in 1886, she moved to New York City. There, she studied art at the famous Art Students League of New York. Her teacher was a well-known artist named Kenyon Cox.

In 1891, Mina married Leonard Ochtman. He was also a painter. They decided to live in a town called Cos Cob. In 1910, they started their own summer art school there. Leonard later helped create the Greenwich Art Society in 1912. He was its first vice president. He even served as the president from 1919 to 1932.
Their Artistic Home
Mina and Leonard lived in a lovely home surrounded by trees. They called their home "Greyledge." It became a popular spot for other artists in the area. Many of their paintings show their home and the beautiful nature around it.
Mina and Leonard had two children. Their daughter, Dorothy Ochtman Del Mar, also became an artist. They also had a son named Leonard Ochtman Jr.
Mina Ochtman was a member of several important art groups. She belonged to the National Association of Women Artists. She was also part of different watercolor societies. Mina Ochtman passed away in 1924.
