Minamoto no Takakuni (源 隆国) (born 1004, died 1077) was a very important person in ancient Japan. He was a noble, meaning he came from a powerful family. He was also a scholar, someone who studied a lot and was very wise.
People also knew him as Uji Dainagon (宇治大納言). A Dainagon was a high-ranking government official. He served in the capital city of Heian-kyō, which is now called Kyoto.
Minamoto no Takakuni was the father of Toba Sōjō. Toba Sōjō became a famous painter. Takakuni himself was mentioned in an old collection of Japanese stories. This collection was called "gleanings from Uji Dainagon Monogatari". These stories were written around the early 1200s. Sadly, the original collection of these tales no longer exists today.
