Minersville was once a small village in Iowa County, Wisconsin, in the United States. Today, it's part of the city of Dodgeville. In the mid-1800s, Minersville and a nearby area called Dirty Hollow became part of Dodgeville. You would find Minersville on what is now Spring Street.
History of Minersville
Minersville got its name because it was home to the Dodgeville Mine. The mine was very important to the village. The railroad also played a big role here. Train tracks ran right through the small community, along Spring Street.
Unlike its neighbor, Dirty Hollow, Minersville never grew very large. It had only a few businesses and homes. The village mostly depended on the mine for its economy.
Later, there was a disagreement between Dodgeville and another town called Mineral Point. They were arguing about which town should be the main government center, or "county seat," for Iowa County. Dodgeville won this argument. After Dodgeville became the county seat, Minersville and Dirty Hollow officially joined Dodgeville. This process is called "annexation," which means one area becomes part of another.
