The Story of Mingo

Mingo has an interesting history, especially when it comes to its name! When the community was first started, it wasn't called Mingo at all. It was known as Mulberry. The area was officially mapped out and divided into lots in 1866. This process is called being platted.

Later, the community's name was changed from Mulberry to Mingo. This new name honors the historic Mingo people. The Mingo were a group of Native American people who lived in this region a long time ago. They were part of the larger Iroquoian language family.
