Minobu (身延町, Minobu-chō) is a small town located in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. It sits on the large island of Honshu. Minobu is known for its beautiful nature and important historical sites.
Minobu's Story
Minobu has a rich history, especially linked to a famous temple. The town grew around a very important temple called Kuon-ji. This temple is a key place for followers of Nichiren Buddhism.
The founder of Nichiren Buddhism, a monk named Nichiren, lived and taught here. His final resting place, or grave, is also located in Minobu. This makes the town a special pilgrimage site for many people.
The modern town of Minobu was officially created in 1931. Before that, it was a village established in 1889.
Minobu's Location
Minobu is nestled in a scenic area of Yamanashi Prefecture. A major river, the Fuji River, flows right through the town. This river is also known as Fujigawa in Japanese. The river adds to the natural beauty of the area.
