Miramar has a long and interesting past, starting way back in the 1800s.
How Miramar Began
The land where Miramar now stands was owned by Fortunato de La Plaza in 1870. Later, in 1887, some important people like Jose María Dupuy, Rómulo Otamendi, and Fortunato de la Plaza decided to create a new city here. Miramar was officially founded on September 20, 1888.

- Just a few years later, in 1891, the General Alvarado area was created, and Miramar became its capital city.
- A big step for the city was in 1911 when the Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway arrived. This railway company even built a nice hotel and a golf course!
- Miramar saw its first airplane land in 1920, which must have been very exciting.

- In the 1930s, the Dormy House hotel was built next to the golf course, and it even had a special tunnel to the sea!
Miramar's Economy: How the City Works
The main way Miramar makes money is through tourism, especially during the summer. Many people visit to enjoy the beaches and attractions. Besides tourism, farming and food processing are also important. These activities are mostly found near the nearby village of Comandante Nicanor Otamendi.
