Miroslav "Miro" Mentel was born on December 2, 1962, in Šurany, which was part of Czechoslovakia. He is a former professional Slovak footballer. He played as a goalkeeper. Today, he works as a coach for goalkeepers. He coaches for the Slovakia national football team and for FK Senica.
Playing Career
Miroslav Mentel played for several football teams. In Czechoslovakia, he played for FK Inter Bratislava. He also played for Dukla Banská Bystrica. Another team he played for was DAC Dunajská Streda. These teams were part of the top league in Czechoslovakia.
After Czechoslovakia split into two countries, he played in the Czech Republic. He joined FC Kaučuk Opava for one season. Mentel also played football in Japan. He was a player for Urawa Reds from 1993 to 1994.
Coaching Career
After finishing his playing career, Miroslav Mentel became a football coach. He started coaching SFC Opava in the early 2000s. Later, he joined FK Senica as an assistant coach. He worked there for many years.
From 2016 to 2017, he became the main coach for FK Senica. In 2019, he started working as a goalkeeping coach for FC Petržalka. He also coaches goalkeepers for the Slovakia national football team. In 2020, he returned to FK Senica as an assistant coach.
