The Mission of Somaliland in Whitechapel, London, is like an office for the Republic of Somaliland in the United Kingdom. It helps Somaliland connect with the UK. This office opened in 1991. That was soon after Somaliland said it was an independent country. It declared its independence from Somalia.
This mission is not a full embassy. This is because the British government does not see Somaliland as a separate country. They still consider it part of Somalia. However, this office is the most important way the Government of Somaliland is represented in the UK. It works a lot like a regular embassy. For example, it can give out visas and Somaliland passports. It also helps people from Somaliland who live in the UK.
