Mitchell Squire facts for kids
Mitchell Squire (born in 1958) is an American artist who creates unique art pieces. He makes sculptures, art installations (which are art pieces set up in a space), and performance art (where the artist performs for an audience). He was born in Natchez, Mississippi.
Mitchell Squire often explores culture through everyday objects he finds. He also looks at how difficult it can be to show pain through art. He is currently a professor at Iowa State University and lives in Ames, Iowa. His artworks are kept in important places like the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
One of Squire's famous art pieces is called "Gladiators." The Minneapolis Institute of Art described it. From far away, this large print looks like fancy perfume bottles. But when you look closer, the black shapes are actually targets used by law enforcement. They look like many faceless figures piled together.
Another artwork by Squire shows paper targets from a shooting range. These targets are full of bullet holes.
Mitchell Squire studied architecture at Iowa State University. He earned both his first degree (Bachelor of Arts) and a higher degree (Master of Architecture) there.
