Mitsuru Nagata (born April 6, 1983) is a Japanese former professional football player. He was a strong defender who played for several clubs in Japan and also represented the Japanese national team.

Mitsuru Nagata's Club Journey
Mitsuru Nagata was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on April 6, 1983. After finishing high school at Shizuoka Gakuen High School, he started his professional football career.
Starting with Kashiwa Reysol
In 2002, Nagata joined Kashiwa Reysol, a club in Japan's top football league, the J1 League. He played his first game in September 2002. By 2003, he became a regular player, known for his strong defense as a center back. However, in March 2005, he suffered a serious knee injury. Even though he returned to play later that year, his team, Kashiwa Reysol, moved down to the J2 League at the end of the 2005 season.
Moving to Albirex Niigata
In 2006, Nagata moved to another J1 League club, Albirex Niigata. Unfortunately, he couldn't play any matches in 2006 because of injuries. But in 2007, he became a key player for Albirex Niigata. He played many games as a center back, helping his team. He continued to be a strong defender for them until 2010.
Playing for Urawa Reds
In 2011, Nagata joined Urawa Reds, one of Japan's biggest football clubs. He quickly became a regular player in his first season there. However, from 2013 onwards, he faced more injuries, which meant he couldn't play as many games. Despite the injuries, he stayed with Urawa Reds until 2016.
Later Career with Tokyo Verdy and Tokyo United FC
In 2017, Nagata moved to Tokyo Verdy, a team in the J2 League. He played for two seasons with them, but injuries continued to limit his time on the field. He left the club at the end of the 2018 season. On May 15, 2019, Nagata joined Tokyo United FC, where he played his final professional games before retiring.
Mitsuru Nagata's National Team Career
Mitsuru Nagata also had the honor of playing for Japan's national football teams.
Youth National Teams
He was part of the Japan U-20 team that played in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates. This was a big tournament for young players from around the world.
Senior National Team Appearances
Nagata was first called up to the senior national team in 2004. He made his official debut for the senior team on September 2, 2010, in a friendly match against Guatemala. He was also chosen to be part of the national squad for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup finals. This was a very important tournament where Japan competed against other top Asian teams. He played two games for Japan's national team until 2011.
