The Story of Modest Mouse
Starting Out in Washington
The band began in Washington state. This was when grunge music was very popular. It was a new kind of rock music. Modest Mouse worked hard to release their first album.
First Albums and New Labels
Their first album was called This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About. It came out in 1996. This happened after they signed with Up Records. One year later, in 1997, they released their second album. It was named The Lonesome Crowded West. In 2000, Modest Mouse signed with Epic Records. Then they released their album The Moon & Antarctica.
New Members and Big Hits
In 2003, Jeremiah Green left the band. But Benjamin Weikel and Dann Gallucci joined. This change did not stop the band. They released their fourth album in 2004. It was called Good News for People Who Love Bad News. This album became very popular. It had two big hit songs: "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty."
More Success and New Songs
After touring for a long time, Modest Mouse went back to the studio. This was in 2006. They recorded their fifth album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. It was released on March 20, 2007. This album was even more popular than Good News. A hit song from it was "Dashboard." After touring with bands like R.E.M. and The National, Modest Mouse released more music. In 2009, they put out a collection of songs. These songs were not on their previous albums. The collection was called No One's First and You're Next.
