Mog (Judith Kerr) facts for kids
Mog is a very famous cat and the main character in a series of books for children. The books were written by the talented author Judith Kerr. In these stories, Mog was deeply loved by her family, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, and their two children, Nicky and Debbie. Mog, being a curious cat, often found herself in funny or tricky situations because of new characters or exciting events.
In the final book of the series, Goodbye, Mog, published in 2002, Mog reached the end of her life peacefully. It was a bit unusual for a children's book to show a pet passing away, especially for younger readers. Judith Kerr explained her decision, saying, "I don't think it was so much about killing off Mog, as rather doing something about dying...and being remembered." This helped children understand and talk about losing a pet.
Mog's Big Comeback for Charity
In November 2015, Mog made an exciting return! She appeared as a CGI character in a special Christmas advert for the supermarket, Sainsbury's. This new story was called Mog's Christmas Calamity.
In this adventure, Mog accidentally started a small fire in her house after having a bad dream. But she quickly became a hero! She saved her family by running across the telephone and accidentally dialing the emergency number, which called the firefighters. For her bravery in saving her owners, Mog was rewarded with a delicious egg.
To help a good cause, a special soft toy version of Mog and a book based on the advert's story were sold at Sainsbury's. All the money made from these sales went to Save the Children's work, helping children learn to read and write.
