Mohammad Abdullah Mohammad Mustafa (Arabic: محمد عبد الله محمد مصطفى) is a Palestinian economist and politician. He was born on August 26, 1954. He is currently the prime minister of the State of Palestine and the Palestinian National Authority. He started this important role on March 31, 2024.
Before becoming prime minister, he held several other key positions. He was the Chairman of the Board for the Palestine Investment Fund (PIF). He also worked as a Senior Economic Advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas. He was an independent member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Earlier, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Palestine from 2013 to 2015. He was also the Minister of National Economy of Palestine from 2014 to 2015.
Mustafa has a lot of experience working with governments and global organizations. He spent about 15 years at the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C. He also advised the Government of Kuwait on economic changes. For two years, he was an advisor to the Public Investment Fund in Saudi Arabia. He even taught as a visiting professor at George Washington University, where he studied.
Early Life and Education
Mohammad Mustafa was born on August 26, 1954, in a place called Kafr Sur in the District of Tulkarm, Palestine. When he was a child, his family had to leave their home. They found safety in Kuwait.
He went on to study electrical engineering at Baghdad University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Later, he continued his studies at George Washington University. There, he earned both his master's degree and his Ph.D.
His Career Journey
Mohammad Mustafa has had a long and important career. He served as the Chairman of the Palestine Investment Fund (PIF). From 2006 to 2013, he was also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the PIF.
Under his leadership, the PIF became a top investor in Palestine. It completed around 60 investments. These investments encouraged $1.2 billion in foreign money to come into Palestine. This helped create about 75,000 jobs for Palestinians.
As CEO of the PIF, Mustafa helped start several important Palestinian companies. These include Wataniya Mobile, Amaar Real Estate Investment Company, and Palestine Power Generation Company. He also helped create the Sharakat Fund for Small businesses.
When he was Deputy Prime Minister, Mustafa had many responsibilities. One of his key roles was leading the rebuilding efforts in Gaza. This happened after the 2014 Gaza War.

Before joining the PIF, Mustafa worked with major international groups. He held several senior positions at the World Bank Group. His work there included economic development, project finance, and helping private businesses grow. He also worked on telecommunications and building new infrastructure. During his time at the World Bank, he took a break to become the first chief executive officer of Paltel.
Becoming Prime Minister
On March 14, 2024, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas chose Mohammad Mustafa to be the Prime Minister. This new government was formed by experts and professionals. His appointment was a significant step for Palestine.
