How it Started: Pocono Downs
The Pocono Downs harness racing track first opened its doors in July 1965. It was a place where people could watch and enjoy horse races.
Becoming Mohegan Sun
On January 25, 2005, the Mohegan company bought the racetrack. They paid a lot of money for it. After this, the place was renamed "Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs." In November 2006, it became the very first casino in Pennsylvania to have slot machines.
Adding More Games and a Hotel
Pennsylvania allowed more types of games in 2010. So, on July 13, 2010, the casino added table games. These included blackjack, poker, and roulette. In November 2013, a hotel was built right next to the casino. This made it easy for visitors to stay overnight.
New Names Over Time
In 2015, the whole place got a new name again. It was called "Mohegan Sun Pocono." This was part of a bigger plan to update the company's brand. Then, on October 4, 2022, it changed its name one more time. It became "Mohegan Pennsylvania." This new name helps all the Mohegan company's places have similar names.
Sports Betting and Online Games
In 2019, Mohegan worked with another company called Kindred Group. Together, they started offering sports betting. You could place bets on sports right at the casino. This started on October 5, 2019. Soon after, on November 12, 2019, you could also bet on sports online.
