Molino Stucky facts for kids
The Molino Stucky is a famous building in Venice, Italy. It is located on the western part of Giudecca island. This large building looks like an old castle, but it was actually built much later. It has a style called Neo-Gothic, which means it looks like buildings from the Middle Ages.
The Molino Stucky was designed by Ernst Wullekopf. It was built between 1884 and 1895. A Swiss businessman named Giovanni Stucky had it built. His family had moved to Italy. The building first worked as a big flour mill. Boats brought grain across the lagoon to it. It also made pasta.

History of Molino Stucky
Building a Giant Mill
Giovanni Stucky wanted a modern flour mill. He chose a spot in Venice where boats could easily deliver grain. The mill was very advanced for its time. It helped Venice become an important place for making flour.
Changes Over Time
More parts were added to the building in 1895. But after 1910, the mill started to have problems. It finally closed for good in 1955. For many years, the huge building sat empty.
A New Life for the Molino
In 1994, a company called Acqua Pia Antica Marcia bought the building. They started to fix it up in 1998. The plan was to turn it into a hotel and conference center. They worked with the Hilton Hotels chain.
The Fire of 2003
While the building was being fixed, a big fire happened on April 15, 2003. The fire badly damaged the main tower. It also hurt the middle part of the building. One wall almost fell into the canal. This made the restoration work even harder.
Opening as a Hotel
Even after the fire, work continued. The Molino Stucky finally opened as a hotel in June 2007. Today, it is known as the Hilton Molino Stucky. It is a five-star hotel. It has many rooms, a swimming pool on the roof, and a large conference hall.
