The Story of Mon Chéri
How it Started
The very first Mon Chéri candies appeared in Italy in 1956. People loved them so much that Ferrero decided to share them with more countries.
Growing Around the World
- In 1960, Mon Chéri started being sold in France and the United Kingdom.
- By 1961, it was also available in Germany.
The name "Mon Chéri" means "My Darling" in French. This name was chosen to sound fancy and European, and it quickly became popular everywhere.
Where the Name Came From
The idea for the name "Mon Chéri" came from a man named Renato Piazza. He was a head waiter at a hotel in Alba, Italy, which is where Ferrero's main office is located. One day, Michele Ferrero, who was a friend of the hotel owner's son, mentioned they needed a name for their new candy. Renato's step-mother was French, so he suggested "Mon Chéri." And that's how this famous candy got its sweet name!
