Monas, also known as the National Monument (Indonesian: Monumen Nasional), is a very tall monument in Jakarta, Indonesia. It stands 450 feet (about 137 meters) high. This monument shows the strong spirit of the Indonesian people. It reminds everyone of their fight for freedom and independence.

The building of Monas started in 1961. It was begun by Indonesia's first president, Sukarno. The monument was finished in 1975, during the time of President Suharto. Monas is made of beautiful marble. At the very top, there's a flame-shaped bronze structure. This flame weighs 14.5 tons and is covered with 35 kilograms of real gold!

Inside the National Monument, you can find several interesting museums. These museums tell the story of Indonesia's journey to freedom.

The Freedom Hall

The Freedom Hall shares the exciting story of how Indonesians fought for their independence. It shows the many struggles and brave actions of the people. This hall helps visitors understand the history of their nation's freedom.

The Hall of Contemplation

The Hall of Contemplation is another important part of Monas. Here, you can see the original Declaration of Independence. This is the document that officially announced Indonesia's freedom. You can also hear a recording of the speech that declared their independence. It's a powerful experience!

Reaching the Observation Deck

Inside Monas, there are special lifts that take you high up. These lifts go to an observation platform. From this platform, you get an amazing bird's-eye view of the city of Jakarta. The platform is 11 by 11 meters wide. It can hold up to 50 people at one time. Imagine seeing the whole city from up there!

Monas Park Entrance

If you want to visit Monas, you can enter through the Medan Merdeka Park Plaza. This entrance is located on the northern side of the monument. In this area, you will find a lovely fountain. There is also a large statue of Prince Diponegoro riding a horse. This impressive statue is made from 8 tons of bronze. It was sculpted by a talented Italian artist named Prof. Coberlato.

Monas Admission Fees

It is free to enter the museum halls inside Monas. However, if you want to take the lift to the very top observation platform, there is a small fee. For adults, the lift ticket costs 5,100 Indonesian Rupiahs. For children, the ticket is 2,600 Indonesian Rupiahs.
