Moncove Lake State Park is a fun place to visit in Monroe County, West Virginia. It opened in 1990 as a state park. The park started with 250 acres (1.0 km2) of land. Today, it has grown to 896 acres (3.63 km2).
The park is located near the town of Union. It sits right next to 144-acre (0.58 km2) Moncove Lake. This area is also special because it's under a major path for hawks. These birds fly over during their fall migration. John Dempsey, who grew up in West Virginia, is the current park superintendent.
You can use power boats on Moncove Lake. However, they must have engines of 5 horsepower (3.7 kW) or less. This rule helps keep the lake calm and safe for everyone.
