Monica Calhoun (born July 29, 1971) is an American actress who has appeared in many movies and television shows. She is famous for her roles in the popular films The Best Man and its sequel, The Best Man Holiday.
Calhoun has also acted in other well-known movies like Bagdad Cafe (1987), The Players Club (1998), and Love & Basketball (2000). For her acting talent, she has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award and an NAACP Image Award.

Life and Career
Starting Out as an Actress
Monica Calhoun was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When she was a child, her family moved to California. She discovered her love for acting in the sixth grade. To improve her skills, she attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, a special school for students interested in creative fields.
Her first role was in a 1985 TV movie called Children of the Night. A few years later, she appeared in the movie Bagdad Cafe (1987). She was the only actor from the movie to also be in the Bagdad Cafe TV show.
Rise to Fame in the 1990s
In the 1990s, Calhoun's career grew quickly. She played Rebbie Jackson in the TV miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream, which told the story of the famous musical family. She also had roles in the movies Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993) and The Ernest Green Story (1993).
Her performance in a CBS Schoolbreak Special earned her a nomination for an Emmy Award. She also guest-starred on popular TV shows like A Different World and The Wayans Bros.
In 1998, she had a memorable role as Ebony in the movie The Players Club. The following year, she played Mia Morgan in the hit film The Best Man. This role was a major success for her. It led to a nomination for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress.
Acting in the 2000s and Beyond
Calhoun continued to act in many films in the 2000s. She played Kerry in the popular movie Love & Basketball (2000). She also had roles in movies like Civil Brand (2002) and The Salon (2007).
In 2013, she returned to her famous role as Mia in The Best Man Holiday. In this emotional sequel, her character deals with a serious illness. Fans loved seeing her and the original cast together again.
More recently, she appeared in the TV miniseries The New Edition Story in 2017. In 2022, she once again played Mia Sullivan in the TV series The Best Man: The Final Chapters, which continued the story from the movies.
