History of Monmouth
Monmouth got its name from officials of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. This railroad had a stop in Monmouth as part of its Valley Division. The officials decided to name the place after Monmouth, Illinois.
A post office served the community of Monmouth for a period. It was open from 1908 until 1919.
