Mont-Bertrand was once a small village, known in France as a commune. It was located in the region called Basse-Normandie, which is in the northwest part of France. Specifically, it was part of the Calvados department.

On January 1, 2016, Mont-Bertrand joined with several other nearby communes to form a new, larger commune named Souleuvre-en-Bocage. This means Mont-Bertrand no longer exists as a separate commune on its own.

What is a Commune?

In France, a commune is the smallest kind of local government area. Think of it like a town or a village. Each commune has its own mayor and a local council that helps manage things like schools, roads, and local services for the people living there.

Mont-Bertrand was a very small commune. In 2008, it had a population of only 233 people. Its mayor was Pierre Mulot, who served from 2008 to 2014.

Where Was Mont-Bertrand Located?

Mont-Bertrand was situated in the Calvados department. This department is famous for its beautiful countryside and its history, especially linked to World War II. The region of Basse-Normandie, where Calvados is found, is known for its green landscapes and dairy farms.

The village was located about 200 meters (or about 656 feet) above sea level. Its lowest point was 102 meters (335 feet), and its highest point reached 247 meters (810 feet). The total area of Mont-Bertrand was about 6.33 square kilometers (about 2.44 square miles).

Mont-Bertrand Today

Even though Mont-Bertrand is no longer a separate commune, the area still exists as part of Souleuvre-en-Bocage. People still live there, and the history of the village is now part of the larger community's story. Joining larger communes helps small villages share resources and manage services more efficiently.
