Monte Markham (born June 21, 1935) is an American actor. He has appeared in many movies, television shows, and plays on Broadway.

Early Life and Education
Monte Markham was born in Manatee County, Florida. He was one of four sons. His father, Jesse Edward Markham Sr., was a merchant.
Monte went to Palm Beach State College. Later, he graduated from the University of Georgia. He earned a master's degree in theater. Before becoming a full-time actor, Markham also served for 10 years as an officer in the United States Coast Guard.
Television Roles
Monte Markham has had many roles on television. In 1967 and 1968, he played two characters, Luke and Ken Carpenter, in the ABC show The Second Hundred Years. He was also Harry Kellem in the original Hawaii Five-O.
From 1969 to 1970, he starred in Mr. Deeds Goes to Town. This show was based on a movie from 1936. Later, he played the main character in The New Perry Mason from 1973 to 1974.
Markham also appeared in The Six Million Dollar Man. He played a racing car driver named Barney Miller. This character became a cyborg, which is a human with machine parts. He played this role in two episodes in 1974 and 1975.
In 1975, he was in an episode of Barnaby Jones. He played two different characters, Vince Barrett and Rick Hatfield. He also played a character named Pike in The Invisible Man.
Later, Markham appeared on the NBC show The Golden Girls. He played Clayton Hollingsworth, who was Blanche Devereaux's brother. He was in two episodes of this popular sitcom. From 1989 to 1992, he played Captain Don Thorpe on Baywatch. Captain Thorpe was a senior lifeguard on the show.
In the mid to late 1990s, Monte Markham narrated several documentary series. These shows were on the History Channel. He also worked as a consultant, director, producer, and narrator for shows like Classroom, The Great Ships, and Air Combat on A&E.
Stage Performances
Monte Markham also performed on stage. One of his first stage experiences was in 1961. He played Horatio in Hamlet at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
He made his first appearance on Broadway in 1973. This was in the musical Irene. For this role, he won the Theatre World Award. He also appeared on Broadway in the play Same Time, Next Year in 1975.
