Montes is a small village located in the eastern part of the Canelones Department in southern Uruguay. It's also the name of the local government area, or municipality, that the village is part of.

Where is Montes Located?
Montes is found along Route 81. It is about 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) east of Migues. The village is also about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of the city of Minas. You can reach Minas by taking Routes 8 and 81. The eastern edge of Montes borders the Lavalleja Department. This border is marked by a stream called Arroyo Solís Grande.
A Look at Montes' History
Montes was officially started in November 1891. It was recognized as a "Pueblo," which means village, on November 3, 1952. This happened through a special law called Ley Nº 11.878.
How Many People Live in Montes?
In 2011, a census showed that 1,760 people lived in Montes. A few years earlier, in 2010, the local government of Canelones had estimated a slightly higher population of 1,968 for the whole municipality during elections.
