The Montevideo tree frog (Boana pulchella) is a type of frog that lives in trees. It belongs to the Hylidae family, which includes many tree frogs. These frogs are found in several South American countries. You can spot them in eastern, central, and northern Argentina. They also live in southeastern Brazil, southeastern Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Where Montevideo Tree Frogs Live

Montevideo tree frogs are very common in their home countries. They prefer open areas like forests and grasslands. You can also find them in savannas that get flooded often. These frogs are quite adaptable to different environments.

Breeding Habits

When it's time to lay eggs, these frogs look for specific places. They breed in ponds that always have water. Flooded grasslands are also perfect spots for them to reproduce. This helps their young tadpoles grow safely.

What Montevideo Tree Frogs Eat

Scientists have studied what these frogs eat in Argentina. Their diet mainly consists of spiders. They also enjoy eating dipterans, which are a type of fly. Crickets are another favorite food for them.

Eating Habits in Cold Weather

Unlike some other frogs, Boana pulchella keeps eating a lot even when it's cold. Many animals slow down and use stored fat during colder months. However, these tree frogs continue to hunt for food actively. This is different from frogs like Dendropsophus nanus, which live in the same areas. Dendropsophus nanus often relies on its fat reserves when the weather gets chilly.
