In August 1992, a large wildfire called the Fountain Fire swept through the area. This fire caused a lot of damage, burning many homes and buildings in Montgomery Creek and a nearby town called Round Mountain. Firefighters worked hard and managed to save most of the main buildings in the center of Montgomery Creek.
