Montourtier facts for kids
Montourtier was a small town, also known as a commune, in France. In 2009, about 326 people lived there. It was located in the northwest part of France, in a region called Pays de la Loire and a smaller area known as the Mayenne department.
On January 1, 2019, Montourtier joined with three other nearby communes: Montsûrs-Saint-Céneré, Deux-Évailles, and Saint-Ouën-des-Vallons. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality (which is like a bigger town or city area) called Montsûrs. This means Montourtier no longer exists as a separate commune.

Why Do Communes Join Together?
Sometimes, smaller communes like Montourtier decide to join with others. This can happen for a few reasons:
- Better Services: By combining, they can share resources and provide better services like schools, libraries, or sports facilities.
- Stronger Voice: A larger municipality might have more influence when dealing with regional or national governments.
- Saving Money: They can sometimes save money by sharing administrative costs and staff.
