Where is Montsûrs Located?

Montsûrs is situated in the northwest part of France. It is in the Pays de la Loire region, which is famous for its beautiful castles and the Loire River. The town is also part of the Mayenne department, a place with many small towns and a peaceful rural feel.

How Montsûrs Became One Big Town

The town of Montsûrs has changed its size and name a few times. This happened because it joined with other smaller towns nearby. This process is called a "merger," where different towns combine to form a larger one.

First Merger: 2017

On January 1, 2017, Montsûrs first joined with a town called Saint-Céneré. When they merged, they formed a new, bigger commune. This new commune was briefly named Montsûrs-Saint-Céneré.

Second Merger: 2019

Later, on January 1, 2019, Montsûrs-Saint-Céneré merged again. This time, it joined with three more towns: Deux-Évailles, Montourtier, and Saint-Ouën-des-Vallons. After this second merger, the new, even larger commune decided to take the original name of Montsûrs. This means the town you see today is a combination of several smaller communities.
