How Montrose Has Changed
For a long time, Montrose was a very quiet place. It was more like a small village, also called a hamlet. Back then, it had only a few businesses, like a drive-in movie theater, some golf courses, and a church.
But things started to change in the 1990s. Many new stores and businesses decided to open in Montrose. This made the area much busier and turned it into the lively shopping district it is today.
The History of Montrose's Name
Montrose had a couple of different names before it became Montrose. First, it was known as Latta's Corners. Then, it was called Ellis' Corners. The very first building in the community was a tavern built by a person named Mr. Latta.
The name Montrose came into use when a post office opened there in 1849. This post office served the community until 1911. People believe the name "Montrose" might have come from the wild roses that grew on the higher ground where the community is located.
