Early Life and Training
Montserrat Figueras was born in Barcelona, Spain, on March 15, 1942. At first, she trained to be an actress. But in 1966, she started studying old singing styles. She did this with her sister, Pilar Figueras.
Montserrat learned how to sing early music in a special way. She made sure it sounded true to history. But she also added a lively energy to it.
Creating New Music Groups
In 1974, Montserrat Figueras and her husband, Jordi Savall, started a music group. They had been married since 1968. The group was called Hespèrion XX. Later, its name changed to Hespèrion XXI. This group focused on early music.
Montserrat and Jordi also created two other important groups. These were La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations. These groups helped bring old music to new audiences.
Performing with Family
Montserrat Figueras often performed and recorded music by herself. She also loved to perform with her family. She and her husband, Jordi, played music with their children. Their daughter, Arianna, and their son, Ferran, are also musicians.
Later Life
Montserrat Figueras passed away on November 23, 2011. She was in Cerdanyola del Vallès, surrounded by her family. Her funeral was held in Barcelona.
