The Monument to Claudio Moyano is a famous statue found in Madrid, Spain. It was created to honor Claudio Moyano, an important leader from the 1800s. He was known for writing the 1857 Law of Education, which was a big deal for schools in Spain.
The monument was designed by Agustín Querol. You can see it in the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V. It features a bronze statue of Claudio Moyano standing on a tall stone base.

History of the Monument
In 1894, a plan to build a statue for Claudio Moyano was restarted. Earlier attempts to raise money for it had not worked well. Teachers from the Province of Zamora helped organize a way to collect money. Teachers from all over Spain donated funds for the monument.
In 1896, the committee in charge chose Agustín Querol to design the statue.
What the Monument Looks Like
The tall stone base of the monument has bronze pictures, called reliefs, on each side. These pictures show important moments from Moyano's life.
- One relief shows him reading his teaching plan in the Congress of Deputies.
- Another shows Queen Isabella II signing his famous 1857 Law.
- There is also a picture of an "Angel of the Schools," which is a symbolic image.
- The front relief shows an angel-like figure holding a sign. The sign says: "To Mr. Don Claudio Moyano y Samaniego, for the great services given to public education, from the Spanish teaching staff. Year 1900."
The bronze statue on top shows Moyano looking serious, as if he is reading his laws to the people.
The Unveiling and Later Moves
The monument was officially revealed in the plaza de Atocha on November 11, 1900. Many important people attended the event. This included government ministers, university leaders, and representatives from schools across the country.
Over the years, the monument was moved several times. It was moved to the plaza de Luca de Tena and then to some gardens in front of a school. In 1982, the Mayor of Madrid, Enrique Tierno Galván, decided to move it back close to its original spot. This move happened on March 28, 1982, to celebrate 125 years since the Moyano Law was created.
