Moran is a small, unincorporated community located in Owen Township, Clinton County, Indiana. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
The Story of Moran
Moran started as a stop along the Vandalia Railroad. This was a very important railway line back in the day.
The community was officially "laid out," or planned, in October 1873. A person named Noah L. Bunnell was responsible for setting up the town.
Moran got its name from an important official who worked for the Vandalia Railroad. This official was from a town called Sedalia, Illinois. Interestingly, he also suggested the name for the nearby town of Sedalia, Indiana.
Moran's Post Office
A post office was opened in Moran in 1872. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years. It stayed open until 1955, when it was finally closed down.
