Morelos is a special kind of area in Mexico, like a county or district, called a municipality. It's one of 67 municipalities in the state of Chihuahua, located in the north-western part of Mexico. The main town and government center for this area is also called Morelos.

The municipality of Morelos covers an area of about 1,336.8 square kilometers (which is about 516 square miles). That's a pretty big area!

In 2010, the total population of Morelos municipality was 8,343 people. This was an increase from 7,172 people in 2005, showing that more people are choosing to live there.

The municipality is made up of many smaller places, called "localities." There are 556 of these towns and villages. However, none of them are very large; none had more than 1,000 people living in them as of 2010.

The name "Morelos" was chosen to honor a very important person in Mexican history: José María Morelos. He was a hero of the Mexican War of Independence, which was when Mexico fought to become free from Spain.
