The Story of Mornflake
How Mornflake Began
The Mornflake brand was first created in 1941. This was during World War II. The Lea family, who owned the company, had been milling oats for a very long time. Their oat milling business began way back in 1675. It started in a small village in Cheshire called Swettenham. The person who runs the company today, John Lea, is a direct descendant of the family's first founder.
One of the Oldest Companies
H J Lea Oakes, which is Mornflake's parent company, is one of the oldest companies in the United Kingdom. It is also one of the biggest employers in Crewe. Another large employer in Crewe is Bentley Motors, which makes luxury cars.
Mornflake and Football
Mornflake Oats has been a big supporter of local football teams. They were the official shirt sponsor for Crewe Alexandra F.C. and Altrincham F.C.. The Mornflake logo was on Crewe's football shirts for 20 years, starting in 2005. This was the longest continuous sponsorship deal in the English Football League (EFL) at that time. In October 2024, the team played its 1,000th game with Mornflake as their shirt sponsor.
In June 2021, Crewe Alexandra F.C. made a special deal with Mornflake. The football club's home ground, Gresty Road, was renamed the "Mornflake Stadium." This agreement was set to last until at least the 2024–25 football season. In April 2025, Mornflake decided to extend their sponsorship for the stadium's naming rights. However, a different company, Whitby Morrison, took over the shirt sponsorship.
