The Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa is a large entertainment center. It is run by the Morongo Band of Cahuilla Mission Indians, a Native American tribe. You can find it in Cabazon, California, near the San Gorgonio Pass.

This resort has 310 rooms and suites. It covers 44 acres and its main tower is 27 stories tall. Morongo is one of the biggest casinos in California. At 330 feet high, its tower is the tallest building in both Riverside County and the larger Inland Empire area.

How Morongo Casino Started

A long time ago, in 1987, a big decision was made. The U.S. Supreme Court said that California could not stop Native American tribes from running bingo and card games on their land. This decision, from a case called California v. Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, helped many tribes start their own gaming places.

In 1995, a new building was made for bingo and card games. It was called Casino Morongo. This new place also had slot machines, a dance hall, a bowling alley, and a diner.

Later, in 2000, people in California voted on something called Proposition 1A. They voted yes, which meant the governor could make agreements with tribes. These agreements allowed tribes to have slot machines and other games on their lands.

Work on the Morongo Hotel began in 2003. The $250-million Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa opened on December 10, 2004. It became one of the largest tribal gaming places in the country. The original Casino Morongo closed for a while in 2004. It reopened in 2018 as a separate casino after the bigger resort expanded.
