Mort is a fun fantasy book written by Terry Pratchett. It was first published in 1987. This book is the fourth one in the popular Discworld series. It's special because it's the first book in the series that focuses on the character of Death.

What is Mort About?

Mort is a young man who isn't very good at working on his family's farm. He's a bit clumsy and not suited for farm life. His father decides to help him find a different job, called an apprenticeship. This means Mort will learn a trade from a master.

Mort ends up finding a very unusual apprenticeship. He becomes an apprentice to Death himself! Death is a tall, seven-foot-tall skeleton who has a very important job: collecting the souls of people who have died.

Life with Death

Death takes Mort to his own strange world. There, Mort meets Death's loyal servant, Albert, and also Death's adopted daughter, Ysabell. Mort's new job involves helping Death with his duties, which leads to many unexpected and often funny adventures. He learns a lot about life, death, and what it means to be human, even though he's working for a skeleton!
