History of Mortimer
Mortimer has an interesting past! It was first known by a different name: Silverwood.
How Mortimer Started
A person named Addison Silverwood created or "laid out" the community in 1883. He named it after himself, which is why it was called Silverwood at first.
The Post Office
Around the same time, in 1883, a post office opened in the community. This post office was called Mortimer, which is how the community got its current name. The post office served the people living there for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1911.
