Where is the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Region?
The Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region stretches across the valleys of its three namesake rivers. The Moselle River is the longest, winding through stunning landscapes with steep vineyards. The Saar and Ruwer rivers are smaller, but they also contribute to the unique wines of this area. The region is found in the western part of Germany, close to the borders with Luxembourg and France.
Special Grapes of the Mosel
The Mosel region is most famous for its Riesling grapes. Riesling wines from here are often light, fresh, and have a special fruity taste. They can be sweet or dry, depending on how they are made.
Two other important grape types grown here are Elbling and Müller-Thurgau. Elbling grapes have been grown in this area for a very long time, even since Roman times! Müller-Thurgau grapes are also popular and produce pleasant, easy-to-drink wines.
