Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Moss Hills was once a small community, or "settlement," located in Placer County, California. A settlement is a place where people live and build homes, even if it's a very small group.

Moss Hills was situated right along the Southern Pacific Railroad line. This railroad was very important for travel and moving goods across California. Moss Hills was located about halfway between two other places called Rampart and Tahoe City.

A Glimpse into the Past

Moss Hills was a recognized place for many years. It even appeared on maps until at least 1934. After that time, it seems the settlement faded away. Many small communities like Moss Hills grew up around railroads or mining operations. When those activities changed or stopped, the people often moved away, and the settlements became "former" places.

Today, Moss Hills is no longer an active community. It exists only in historical records and on old maps.
