Motohiro Yoshida started his football career in his hometown of Suita, Osaka. After finishing college at Keio University, he joined a professional team called Kashiwa Reysol in 1997.
Early Career and Success
When he first joined Kashiwa Reysol, Motohiro didn't play much. Other goalkeepers were ahead of him. But from 1999, he started to compete for the main goalkeeper spot. He played in many games in 1999 and 2000. During this time, his team, Kashiwa Reysol, won the 1999 J.League Cup. They also finished third in the top Japanese league, the J1 League, in both 1999 and 2000.
Moving to New Teams
After 2001, Motohiro didn't play as often for Kashiwa Reysol. In 2003, he moved to Gamba Osaka, a team from his hometown. However, he still didn't get to play much there.
In 2005, he made a big move to Cerezo Osaka. This team was a rival to Gamba Osaka, but it was still in the same city. At Cerezo Osaka, Motohiro became the main goalkeeper. He played in every single game for three seasons! In 2005, his team finished 5th in the J1 League. Motohiro was even chosen as one of the best players in the league, which is called the "Best Eleven."
However, in 2006, Cerezo Osaka finished 17th. This meant they had to move down to the J2 League for the 2007 season.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2008, Motohiro moved to another J2 League team, Avispa Fukuoka. He played many games there, competing for the goalkeeper position. In 2009, he was the main goalkeeper for a while, but then another player took his place.
In 2010, he moved to FC Machida Zelvia, a team in the Japan Football League. He played many matches for two seasons. His team did well and was promoted to the J2 League for the 2012 season. Even though his team was moving up, Motohiro decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2011 season.
