Discovering Motosports Park
Motosports Park, often called MSP, was started in 1969 by Joe Vincer. It quickly became very popular with motorcycle riders. Today, Joe's son, Aaron, runs the park.
What Happens at MSP?
MSP hosts about 35 motocross and ATV events each year. These events include many different races and series. Some of the big events are:
- The ten-part Nuclear Series
- A regional race for the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA)
- The first part of the Racer X Senior Series
- Many qualifying races for the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA)
- Sometimes, the Illinois District 17 State Championships
The park is located in Rockvale Township in Ogle County, Illinois. It's just southwest of Byron.
The Nuclear Series Explained
The Nuclear Series gets its name from two very large towers. These towers are part of the Byron Nuclear Generating Station, a power plant. They stand tall near the park. It's interesting because the power plant was built after Motosports Park was already there!
A fun part of the Nuclear Series is its final race. This event ends with a big pig roast, an awards ceremony, and parties in the pit areas.
The Two Tracks at MSP
In 2004, Aaron Vincer announced that a new track would be built at Motosports Park. His mother, Sue Hachmeister, named this new track the Hilltop Track. Because of this, the original track became known as the Legacy Track.
- The Hilltop Track is now used for smaller bikes and ATVs. This includes 50cc bikes, 65cc junior and beginner riders, and all ATV classes.
- The Legacy Track is still home to races for bigger bikes. This includes 65cc senior riders, 85cc, 125cc, 250cc bikes, and age division classes.
