Motshegetsi "Motsi" Mabuse (born 11 April 1981) is a famous South African dancer. She lives in Germany. Motsi is well-known for being on the German TV dance show Let's Dance. She started as a professional dancer and later became a judge in 2011. Since 2019, she has also been a judge on the British version of the show, Strictly Come Dancing.

Motsi's Early Life and Family

Motsi Mabuse was born in 1981 in a place called Mankwe. This area was once known as the Republic of Bophuthatswana. It is now part of the North West Province in South Africa. In 1994, Bophuthatswana became part of South Africa.

When Motsi was five years old, her family moved to Pretoria. Her sister, Oti Mabuse, was born there. Both Motsi and Oti became very interested in dancing. Motsi went to Hillview High School in Pretoria.

Motsi's Dance Career

Becoming a Professional Dancer

Motsi was expected to become a lawyer and work in her family's law firm. However, she discovered her love for dancing while studying at the University of Pretoria. She decided to focus on dancing instead. In 1998, she was the runner-up in the national dance championships.

The next year, in 1999, she met her dance and life partner, Timo Kulczak. They met at the British Open Championships in Blackpool. They got married in 2003. Together, they competed in many international dance competitions from their home in Germany. In 2013, Motsi won a German Latin dance contest with another dancer, Evgenij Voznyuk.

Dancing and Judging on Let's Dance

Motsi Mabuse became famous in Germany in 2007. This was when she appeared on the RTL dance show Let's Dance. She danced with singer Guildo Horn in the second season. They finished in 6th place.

In 2010, she danced in the third season with Rolf Scheider. They reached fifth place. Since 2011, Motsi has been a judge on Let's Dance. She judges alongside Joachim Llambi and Jorge Gonzalez.

Motsi also worked for the ARD TV channel during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. She reported from South Africa. In 2011, she became a judge on the German talent show Das Supertalent. She was also a judge on the German version of Stepping Out in 2015.

In 2016, Motsi started acting on stage. She performed in a play called The Crucible. The same year, she was a judge on a TV show called Curvy Supermodel. In 2018, she became the host of a new styling show called Who Makes Me Beautiful.

Judging on Strictly Come Dancing

In July 2019, Motsi Mabuse was announced as a new judge for the BBC dance show Strictly Come Dancing. She joined the show in its seventeenth series. Her sister, Oti Mabuse, was a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing from 2015 to 2021.

In 2021, Motsi became an ambassador for Weight Watchers.

Motsi's Personal Life

Motsi Mabuse was married to her dance partner, Timo Kulczak, from 2003. They separated in 2014.

In 2015, she started a relationship with her dance partner, Evgenij Voznyuk. They got married in 2017 and had a daughter the following year. Motsi has lived in Germany for over 20 years. She and Evgenij run a dance school there, alongside her TV work.
