History of Mount Berry
Mount Berry got its name from Martha Berry, who was the founder of Berry College. She started the college, and the area was named in her honor.
In 1935, the Georgia General Assembly decided to make Mount Berry an official town. This meant it had its own local government and rules. However, this changed later. In 1973, the town's official permission to be a town, called its "municipal charter," was taken away. After that, Mount Berry went back to being an unincorporated community, managed by Floyd County.
