Mount Clare is a small village located in Macoupin County, Illinois, in the United States. In 2020, about 311 people lived there. It's a quiet place in the heart of Illinois.
Where is Mount Clare?
Mount Clare is in the southeastern part of Macoupin County. It's located at 39°5′59″N 89°49′19″W / 39.09972°N 89.82194°W. The city of Benld is right next to it on the east side. Another town, Gillespie, is about 2 miles (3.2 km) north.
You can reach Mount Clare using Illinois Route 4, which goes north and south through the eastern part of the village. Illinois Route 138 also connects Mount Clare to Wilsonville, which is about 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest.
The village covers a total area of about 1.58 square miles (4.09 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, and a small part is water. The water areas are mostly from the beginning of Big Branch, a small stream. This stream flows south and eventually joins Cahokia Creek, which then flows into the Mississippi River near St. Louis.
