Important Events in Mount Hope
Mount Hope has faced some tough times. In 1985, the Mount Hope High School building burned down. Students woke up in the middle of the night to see their school on fire. Classes were moved to the current Mount Hope School. However, the high school was never rebuilt.
The community also experienced a powerful natural disaster. In 2011, a very strong tornado hit Mount Hope. This tornado was part of the Hackleburg–Phil Campbell tornado. It was an EF5 tornado, which is the strongest type. The tornado caused a lot of damage to the town.
