Mount Kent is a mountain located on East Falkland, one of the main islands in the Falkland Islands. This mountain stands at about 1093 feet (333 meters) tall. It is found north of another mountain called Mount Challenger.
Mount Kent's Role in History
Mount Kent played an important part during the Falklands War in 1982. This war was a conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the Falkland Islands. The mountain was a key location during the Assault on Mount Kent, which was part of a bigger battle known as the Battle of Mount Harriet.
Even today, some areas around the mountain might still have hidden explosives from the war. These areas are marked and are dangerous, so visitors must be careful and stay on marked paths.
Radar Station on Mount Kent
The very top of Mount Kent is home to the RRH Mount Kent. RRH stands for Remote Radar Head. This is a special station that uses radar to watch the skies. It helps to control the airspace around the Falkland Islands.
This radar station is part of a larger network. It works with other radar heads like RRH Mount Alice and RRH Byron Heights, which are located on West Falkland. Together, these stations help to provide an early warning system and keep the skies safe for the British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI).
