Mount Michelson is a very tall mountain located in northern Alaska, a state in the United States. It's part of a large group of mountains called the Brooks Range, specifically within the Romanzof Mountains. This impressive peak stands at 8,852 feet (which is about 2,698 meters) above sea level.
In 2015, new measurements showed that Mount Michelson is the fourth highest mountain in the Brooks Range. It's located about 15 miles (or 24 kilometers) north of Mount Isto, which is the highest peak in that same mountain range.
What's in a Name?
Mount Michelson was named a long time ago, between 1906 and 1914. It was named by a person named E. de K. Leffingwell. He chose the name to honor Professor Albert Abraham Michelson.
