Mount Pleasant is a small community located in Ulster County, New York, in the United States. It's part of the town of Shandaken. You can find it along New York State Route 28, right inside the beautiful Catskill State Park. Mount Pleasant is situated between the villages of Phoenicia to the north and Boiceville to the south. Mount Pleasant: A Glimpse into Its Past

Mount Pleasant has a rich history, even though it's a small place today. Long ago, it was a busy spot with several important businesses.

Early Days and Travelers

Around 1805, a man named Jacob Montrose ran an inn near Mount Pleasant. An inn was like a hotel where travelers could rest and eat. By 1810, another person named Jacob Longyear was in charge of the inn. Later on, Mount Pleasant even had its own railroad station. This made it easier for people and goods to travel to and from the area.

Businesses in the 1880s

By 1880, Mount Pleasant was home to several interesting businesses. The Ulster County Manufacturing company had a pulp-mill here. A pulp-mill processes wood to make paper products. Joseph Degraff ran a factory that made pill boxes.

There was also James Lockwood's store, where people could buy supplies. Martin Terwilliger had a blacksmith shop, where he worked with metal to make and repair tools. John Inglodson ran a shoe shop, making and fixing shoes for the community. Mount Pleasant also had two mills, likely for grinding grain, and another hotel for visitors.
